December 2011

Advent (from the Latin word adventus meaning “coming”)
is the 4 week period before Christmas
when the Church celebrates the first coming of Christ
and anticipates his second coming.

Advent is also a spiritual journey that Christians take,
through the truths of Scripture that point to the birth of Messiah,
to a reaffirmation that he has come,
is present in the world today and will come again in glory.

Advent starts on the fourth Sunday before December 25.

The Advent wreath is a Christian tradition that symbolizes
the passage of the four weeks of Advent.
It is usually a horizontal evergreen wreath with four candles and often,
a fifth, white candle in the center.
Beginning with the First Sunday of Advent,
the lighting of a candle can be accompanied by a Bible reading and prayers.
An additional candle is lit during each subsequent week until,
by the last Sunday before Christmas,
all four candles are lit.

  3. “As God’s people were abused by power hungry kings, led astray by self-centered prophets, and lulled into apathy by half-hearted religious leaders”

Wow! Powerful words! With the way things are in Egypt (my country of birth) there is a new awakening in the people of the Lord. Great post! Thank you so much.
